September 3:: Sketches of Zones/Worlds

Notes Written to Self:

**The world DOES NOT need to be realistic, do not let this be a hindering factor in the design!**

What kind of world do I create?
  • Fantasy
World Influenced by:
  • Nothing (Most difficult - Nothing to reference from)
  • Reality - Real Locations?
  • Dreams/Nightmares?
Start Small or big?
  • Small 'beginning zone'
  • World Map layout ideas
World Brainstorms:

Known:
  • Want foresty starting area for main protagonist, where she lives

Unknown:
  • Structure for the rest of the world??

Themes:
  • Various, dependant on different cities (+ cities that influence them)

Protagonist's Home:

  • Faerie/Magic inspired -- larger than life trees? (unrealistically so?)
  • Exaggerated tree/foliage sizes (super large plant leaves?)
  • Interesting magic elements or enchanted items in the forest (due to main protagonist being a beginning magic user) some useful, some not so much
  • Protagonist's home hidden from view ---> enchanted?? ---> disguised as something else, more natural
  • treehouse?? ---> disguised/camoflauged

World:
  • Variation of reality/imaginary?
  • Some sort of large island mainland with smaller outlieing islands, perhaps some not even shown on a map (hidden/secret/undiscovered islands either just uncharted or the government is keeping them 'hidden' from public view on purpose)
Sketches:

I mostly worked on concepts in words rather than sketches, though I now know where I want to go with them; the world sketch is fairly accurate and I believe I will probably use a form of it in the final piece. My initial ideas would be the capital of the 'world/continent' would be where the star is, with limited access into that area for security reasons. (I think of 'continent' as different in this world, due to these being the only 'known' populated areas of the world, with perhaps some uncharted/unknown islands that either people really don't know about or that they are hidden by the government)
