For the last character, I decided to go with the 'prince' of the world. He's supposed to be a boy of about 7 or 8, short in stature, less muscular, and 'adorable'. I first started to get a child's body type sketched and then altered it for this particular character. I started with his 'royal' clothing (far right) though I need to finish designing something for more 'casual' clothing, to go with his story (was kidnapped etc etc to hide identity, different clothing etc.)

November 5th:: P4 Beginnings

Project 4: 

Character Design 3; Full Body and Full Color reference sheet of character, with front (or 3/4) back and side views, a sheet (or multiple) of different expressions/poses of the character, character biography, sketches (or more if time) of different outfits for the character. Possibly sketches of the character's home. May choose to add additional sketches/art of the character if time permits. Research tutorials and information as necessary during the project.

Necessary Components: 

Full body and full color reference sheet with front (or 3/4), back and side views, expression sheet, character biography. Blog postings for each class period are necessary to show progress and research.

Initial Brainstorm Ideas:

Protagonist: Spirit of the Forest (female, stylized figure), summoned by Trinesta; takes on the form of a fox (wispy hair/fur)

Antagonist: "King" figure- Rounded body shape, old and bearded. Unknown age, looks 70 ish, but is much older. 'Appears' as a good king initially, but isn't. Real king was killed and replaced by current king; no one noticed the transition.

Protagonist: Son of the king; young, cute little boy (7-8 yrs old). Blonde Hair, large, blue expressive eyes, baggy clothing. Wears long scarf. Looks very feminine.

**Story addition: Conspiracy involving the royal family:
Son also accidentally finds out that 'his father' isn't really /his father/ but was replaced. Prince gets kidnapped --> Father arranged it to rid himself of an 'heir' he can continue his rule, and also to preserve his secret. Father also arranges a search party (not to find his son but to make sure he's dead).

Prince winds up on Trinesta's island, where she finds him. She takes care of him with her guardian whom she also found and took in. They plan to take him back to the castle, but he tries to frantically explain what happened.

Project Synopsis:

This character was significantly harder for me, mainly due to the fact that I don't often draw male characters as much as I should. I struggled with his body structure, his facial structure, his clothing and his hair. About all of what I went off of was the textual descriptions that I started with, which helped me immensely. Unlike the first character, I had an idea of what kind of palette I wanted to use for this guy, so at least that helped when it came to what colors to go with. Overall I'm fairly happy with how he turned out, and I very much like how he has a larger than normal nose, though the 'beakyness' of it could definitely be pushed. Ran into a bit of a time crunch with this project due to colliding due dates of other classes, but I worked through it and now he's done, fortunately.

I'm fairly certain that all the characters I create in this class will become permanent additions to my ever growing OC roster.

October 31st:: P3 WIPs

Final workday for P3;

Going to base colors in the expression sheets, the reference sheet. Also going to finish up the text portion of the character background.

If nothing to work on for P3 after the above (mostly shading at this point most likely), start brainstorming for P4, a third and final OC that would fit into the 'world'.

October 29th:: P3 WIPs

Mostly at this point I just scanned everything and started lining. Both expression sheets are lined, and the reference sheet is in the process of being lined. Today I'm going to work out the proper hairstyle for the (currently) nameless male OC, as well as try and work out his overall color scheme. I will also be working on filling in the gaps in his basic information.

The colors I have in mind for this particular character are shades of blue with some gold and brown. The brown/yellows are influenced by typical mythological gryphon colorations, but I also wanted to have 'raven' influences, hence the blues and purples.

Blue and yellow are also complimentary contrasts, so that's another factor in my color choices.

October 24:: P3 WIPs

I spent some time reworking the anatomy of my character a bit to represent him as being not as muscular as the original body sketch. I also re-worked his face to be more how I intended.

I had to sit down and do some sketches and thought process on what type of background the character has, what he would have worn before and what he would be wearing in the time of meeting the protagonist. I wasn't happy with how his face looked, so I was exploring the size of the nose and experimenting with elongating the face to give emphasis to the character's serious demeanor and referencing his animal DNA (that is, gryphon).

I still need to play with hairstyles, but I was attempting to do something reminiscent of feathers. I may fix the hair digitally so I can move forward with the other angles of the character sheet and start working on the expression sheet (which will be interesting since the character himself is 'serious').
